The Dental Council of India (DCI) has made it mandatory for every dental college in the country, including new ones, to have a research wing, citing a lack of research in the dental field.

Compared to research in the dental field worldwide, India’s representation is negligible, said a recent study which was conducted in 40 dental colleges in India.

In government dental colleges, only few dental colleges such as Maulana Azad Institute of Dental sciences, All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in the national Capital, PGI in Chandigarh and King George Dental College in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, have a wing actively engaged in research work.
