Students who want to earn a SWAYAM certificate need to pay a fee to register for the final proctored exams and show up in person at designated centers on specific dates.
The UGC has already issued the UGC Regulation 2016 directing universities to identify SWAYAM courses for which students can transfer credits to their academic records.
In accordance with the guidelines set forth by the University Grants Commission (UGC), MOOCs have been made mandatory at Bangalore University. As part of the academics, students must complete at least one course by the end of their final year.
Disadvantages of online courses
MOOCs have some drawbacks. Contrary to conventional tuition systems, they are unable to provide individualized courseware or tutor attention.
MOOCs are not accessible to students who have disabilities or a poor Internet connection. When providing MOOCs, language barriers may exist.
