In the next two years, a Design Aptitude Test (DAT) similar to CAT (Common Admission Test) taken by management aspirants may become a reality for those who wish to pursue higher education in design across the country.
The idea has been floated in several meetings of the India Design Council (IDC), an autonomous body of the Union government. While DAT may initially be used for seeking undergraduate admissions, it is most likely to take shape in the next two years, said Pradyumna Vyas, Director of National Institute of Design (NID), Ahmedabad and also the Member-Secretary of the ID.
Speaking to The Indian Express Vyas said, “We are contemplating to start Design Aptitude Test on the lines of CAT to reduce the agony of students and parents who have to fill numerous forms and give various exams for getting admissions into design schools.”
“Students armed with DAT scores will be able to seek admissions at all reputed design institutions, in a manner similar to CAT scores and this move will greatly benefit design aspirants and their parents.”
