The state’s campaign of  ‘Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao’ campaign got a fillip when Poonam, the daughter of a teacher from Bilawal village in Bhiwani stunned her groom Sandeep Kumar from Jhajjar on Friday by asking him to pledge to pay for the education of 11 needy girls before carrying on with the rituals when it was time to walk towards the
mandap for the pheras and take the seven vows.

He took the pledge duly and the wedding guests raised their hands as witnesses to the pledge.

According to the 2011 census, the state has the lowest child sex ratio of 830-1,000 in the age group between 0-6 years and 877-1,000 in general.  Centre’s ‘Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao’ campaign was launched in January this year from Panipat to save the girl child and spread awareness through education.
