With the football world cup happening in Russia this year, an interest in the country has again risen among Indians. However, Russia has always been a center of attraction in India, right from the Soviet Union days. The strong bond between the two nations is visible in all spheres of life, especially in education. So, Russia decided to strengthen this by providing viable educational opportunities for medical and technical courses on its shores.
What is it?
The 19th edition of Russian Education Fair, dedicated to providing subsidized higher education to the Indian students in the medical and technical courses, was recently held in the Capital.

From on-the-spot admissions given to the eligible aspirants seeking counseling on qualifying tests like IELTS and different CET; which college to study at in Russia and their eligibility criteria, students seek guidance on various queries related to admission in Russian colleges.
Why in Russia?
The study cost in Russian universities for the medical and technical courses are much less than the private Indian Universities. Moreover, the seats available for medical students in India are much less than those qualifying NEET. Thus, students who could not get admission in Indian Government medical colleges, have better scope for higher education at Russia Universities.
Head of the education department of Russian Centres of Science and Cultures in India, Elena Barman said: “The standard of higher education in Russia is considered to be one of the most advanced and sophisticated. However, the cost of higher education is relatively cheaper because it is highly subsidized by the Government of the Russian Federation. We are privileged to ensure this initiative of the Russian Government to aspirants in India.”
On-the-spot admission
Aspiring students have to fill the registration form and submit all the necessary documents namely copy of the passport, certificate of completion of higher secondary education with the transcript. Students are given admission letters on the spot after their selection.
Eligibility criteria
All the students, who are above 17 years of age, have 50 percent aggregate in the Physics, Chemistry, and Biology and have passed NEET examination are eligible for admission in MBBS in Russia. For students applying for non-medical courses, there are no criteria for entrance tests required.
Special facilities
Some of the top Russian Universities includes Ural Federal University, Russian Technological University, Orenburg State Medical University and Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology are providing special aids to Indian students like Indian food court, separate hostels for girls and boys and separate hostels for Indian students. Professors are taught English so that they can teach the Indians. Students will also be given English classes. Indian students will be treated the same as Russian students.
Fees charged
The fee for MBBS course in Russian Universities starts from Rs 12 lakh approximately and others courses also have subsidized fees, though no extra concessions or scholarships are given on admission to anyone.
Upcoming Fair
The second leg of the Russian Education Fair will be from June 8 to 16, 2018 from 10 am to 5 pm at the Russian Centre for Science and Culture.
